Daily Summary

August Seasonal FSM Updates

We highlight some of the most popular FSM models following the latest seasonal quarter evaluations.

Morning Pulse

NDW Morning Pulse - August 5, 2026

  • Market action on 8/4 was overwhelmingly strong. The return profile was nearly identical to that of results from 8/3, seeing the likes of the Russell 2000 ([RUT]), Nasdaq Composite ([NASD]) and Emerging Markets ([EEM]) lead the way each up ~2%. Meanwhile, the US Dollar ([DX/Y]) and Crude oil fell.
  • Market breadth continues to expand. [^BPSPX], which measures the percentage of S&P 500 stocks trading on buy signals, moved to 2026 highs with yesterday’s action. It has yet to challenge highs from 2024 or 2025, but a breadth “concern” in early 2026 has quickly given way to open Q3.
  • With the breadth expansion, [SPXEWI] moved to all time chart highs. It’s technical posture remains ironclad as it sits on a string of buy signals with a range of support below. More growth focused [NDX] returned to a buy signal but has yet to get back to its highs…. Speaking to the magnitude of the recent exhale for growth focused areas.
  • Crude oil slipped back down below the seemingly key lower $80’s/upper $70’s mark on its chart. From here, a journey back down to the recent lows in the upper $60’s wouldn’t be out of the question and would also signal markets pricing in further deescalation in Iran.
  • [AMD] fell ~8% in premarket trading. It remains a high attribute name but monitor relative peer and market RS charts for changes in technical attribute. [LLY] advanced, continuing its push towards ATH’s on its chart. It holds a 5/5 TA score. [WDC] reports after close. The 5% chart highlights support around $425 and some significant resistance around current levels.

NDW Morning Pulse

Below are highlights from the NDW Morning Update Video for the morning of 08/03. Access the the video on the NDW Morning Update Video page.

  • It was an overwhelmingly productive day for most global equity markets yesterday, seeing growth focused areas in NASD & RUT lead the way to the upside. NASD picked up 2+%, while the Russell 2000 advanced just under 1.75% to reverse back higher on its default chart.
  • The S&P 500 (SPX) picked up roughly 1.5%, returning to all-time chart highs after what has seemed like a rocky exhale to open Q3. The technical picture for SPX remains quite constructive, with some now solidified support around 7250-7350 on its default chart.
  • With the productive day, SPX reversed back into X’s on its 1% Relative Strength chart against SPXEWI, signaling an uptick in strength for cap-weighted assets. This chart has historically provided a consistent picture of strength, with either your RS Switching (owning whichever asset sits on a buy signal) or reversal portfolio (owning whichever asset sits in X’s) outperforming a buy and hold portfolio of either asset individually.
  • The notable decliner for the day was crude, which slipped 5%. It got back down into the low $80’s/high $70’s, a point which has been an important line in the sand throughout 2026 amid conflict in the Iran. Watch this point closely to see if markets are pricing in further deescalation or a pick back up in tensions.
  • Notable earnings: CAT picked up ~8% on productive results. It has fallen off its 2026 highs but remains a technically defendable asset. PLTR gained ~14% in premarket trading, but is still in the red for the year. Watch for a failed breakout after the report. AMD reports after close on 8/4. It trades off its respective highs but maintains its strong technical posturing ahead of the report. Watch $432 towards the downside and $460-$484 to the upside.

August Seasonal FSM Updates

by Ian Saunders

This week marks the latest evaluation for our seasonal Fund Score Method (FSM) models. These strategies were evaluated based on the market data through Monday (8/3), with any corresponding trades sent out Tuesday morning (8/4). There were several notable developments in this evaluation as we saw some continuity in the new positions rising to the top of the various model inventories. Today, we will review the FSM model framework and then focus on some highlights from the latest evaluation. Those that do not need a refresher on the structure behind the FSM models can skip down to the latest updates.

The FSM Approach

Our FSM models have the same goal as any model on our platform; focusing the model exposure on the strongest areas of the market while underweighting or avoiding the weak areas. The approach to achieve this goal differs slightly than matrix models, as FSM models use fund scores to rank the inventory members. Every ETF and mutual fund on the NDW platform has a fund score ranging from 0 (weakest) to 6 (strongest). More information on fund scores can be found here. The FSM framework simply takes the inventory members and sorts them by fund score at set evaluation points, typically either monthly or quarterly. We use off calendar evaluations defined on “seasonal” quarters, which take place at the beginning of February, May, August, and November. Most FSM models also have defensive triggers that can push some or all the portfolio to cash, but those remain risk-on following the recent evaluation. More on those triggers and the FSM framework can be found here.

Using fund scores for inventory rankings in the FSM models will not differ drastically from what can be shown using a matrix ranking. Both methodologies look to rank the areas with the highest momentum at the top. However, we have seen that the fund score ranking can be easier to grasp than the matrix, making them more applicable for certain use cases. FSM models are very popular for retirement accounts or non-taxable accounts, partially due to their propensity for more turnover than a matrix-based approach.

August Evaluation Highlights

The FSM T Rowe Price 5S P4050 Model is one of the most popular models on our platform. This model takes an inventory of 45 mutual funds from T Rowe Price and focuses exposure on the top five funds by fund score at each evaluation. This week’s change saw all five holdings rotate out of the portfolio in favor of five new areas of strength, which is very rare. This was only the fifth time we have seen 100% turnover at one of the model evaluations. While trades like this are rare, the portfolio is doing what it is designed to do, namely move away from laggards and push the allocation toward current leadership. Following these changes, the T Rowe Price 5S Model now shows an overweight posture to value, with new positions in the T Rowe Price International Value Equity Fund (TRIGX) and the T Rowe Price Value Fund (TRVLX). Although the Model has experienced more difficulty over the past month, the longer-term annualized returns are still favorable when compared to our benchmark 80/20 portfolio.

The American Funds 5S PR4050 Model is another popular strategy under the FSM banner. Like the T Rowe strategy, this model seeks to focus exposure on the five strongest funds from an inventory of 21 American Funds mutual funds. This model saw just one change at the most recent evaluation, gaining exposure to the EuroPacific Growth Fund (AEPGX). While international equities have seen varying performance over the past month, the EuroPacific Growth Fund has held up well. The fund possesses a robust 5.36 fund score and sits on three consecutive buy signals on its default chart. We saw the volatility over the past month lead to some normalization in the trading band, as AEPGX sits at the mid-point of the band. Even for those not following the model, the fund remains actionable around current levels with initial support at $60.80.

Market Distribution Table The Distribution Report below places Major Market ETFs and Indices into a bell curve style table based upon their current location on their 10-week trading band.

The middle of the bell curve represents areas of the market that are "normally" distributed, with the far right being 100% overbought on a weekly distribution and the far left being 100% oversold on a weekly distribution.

The weekly distribution ranges are calculated at the end of each week, while the placement within that range will fluctuate during the week. In addition to information regarding the statistical distribution of these market indexes, a symbol that is in UPPER CASE indicates that the RS chart is on a Buy Signal. If the symbol is dark Green then the stock is on a Point & Figure buy signal, and if the symbol is bright Red then it is on a Point & Figure sell signal.

NDW Spotlight Stock

AER AerCap Holdings NV R ($154.62) - Aerospace Airline - AER has been at least a 3 for 5’er since October 2022. The stock improved to a 5 for 5’er on 7/29 after seeing the peer relative strength chart reversing back into a column of Xs, highlighting near-term positive RS. AER has maintained long-term positive RS against its peers since September 2021 and the market since October 2022. The stock has maintained a positive trend since April 2025 and a buy signal since the middle of June this year. Last week’s action led to a third buy signal with a spread triple top break and new all-time chart high at $156 before reversing back down to Os to $150. Okay to consider the stock in the upper $140 to mid-$150 range. The bullish price objective of $184 will serve as the price target, while the initial stop loss will be set for $130.

AVGO Broadcom Ltd ($420.76) - Semiconductors - Shares of AVGO broke a quadruple top at $400 to move back to a buy signal, in addition to flipping its trend back to positive. The now 4 for 5'er is back to buy territory. From here, initial resistance from all-time highs lies at $488.
INTC Intel Corporation ($101.25) - Semiconductors - Shares of INTC rebounded sharply on Tuesday, breaking a double top at $98 to move back to a buy signal. Today's move also saw the stock regain near-term market relative strength, returning it back to strong territory as a 4 for 5'er. From here, initial resistance lies at $106 and $108.
JPM J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. ($358.64) - Banks - JPM pushed higher today, posting its 5th consecutive buy signal in the process. The stock's technical picture is strong and improving. Feel free to add here or on pullbacks to a wide range of support from $328 to $344.
MRVL Marvell Technology Inc. ($219.31) - Semiconductors - Shares of MRVL broke a double top at $204, ending its streak of five consecutive sell signals. Today's move also saw the stock regain near-term market relative strength, taking it back into positive territory as a 4 for 5'er. With its rebound, it's back to being more of a buy than a sell. From here, initial resistance lies at $232 and $248.
NET Cloudflare Inc Class A ($303.67) - Internet - Shares of NET broke a double top at $296 for its second consecutive buy signal, reaching all-time highs as well. The perfect 5 for 5'er has consistently pushed higher recently and remains a solid buy for those needing new technology stocks in their portfolio. Initial support lies at $280 and $252, with the bullish support line also at $252.
PLTR Palantir Technologies Inc. Class A ($163.52) - Software - Shares of PLTR went nuclear on Tuesday, rising around 30% on the day to return to a buy signal. PLTR's move flipped its trend back to positive and will likely regain near-term relative strength. However, even that wouldn't make it anything more than just a hold as a 3 for 5'er. Initial resistance lies at $164 then $172 while initial support isn't found until $120
SNDK SanDisk Corp ($1,434.75) - Computers - Shares on SNDK broke a double top at $1408, ending its streak of two consecutive sell signals. The stock recently regained near-term market relative strength, bringing it back into buy territory as a 4 for 5'er. From here, initial resistance lies at $1696 then $1792.
ZS Zscaler, Inc. ($162.31) - Internet - ZS broke a spread triple top at $158 today, clearing its bearish resistance line and flipping into a positive trend. That trend change, combined with the RS chart versus the market reversing back up into a column of Xs, lifted ZS from a 0 for 5'er to a 2 for 5'er. The stock still sits on RS sell signals against both the market and its peers, so it remains in sell territory for now. The stock's picture is attempting to turn bullish, but traders should watch for continued relative strength improvement to confirm the turn before committing long exposure. Support can be found at $144.
