A brief overview on the last week of positive market action.

Analyst Commentary:

  • The S&P 500 rose 1.40% last week as we are midway through the historically strong “Santa Claus Rally” period. While the last two “Santa Claus Rallies” saw the market dip lower, this stretch has historically seen above average market returns.

  • International equities had a similarly positive week, seeing proxy AXWX gain 1.5%, bringing its return across the full year to nearly 30%. International equities are on pace to beat the S&P 500 by more than 10% for the first time since 2007.

  • Technology has been the best performing major sector this year, seeing proxy IYW gain 27.2%. However, it has averaged a 31.6% gain in years the S&P 500 is positive, meaning that technology is typically up even further in a good year for the market.

  • After putting on an outstanding performance in 2025, both gold and silver moved to new all-time highs over the past week. Precious metals sit at the top of our asset class group scores page, maintaining an extremely strong average score above 5.4.

  • It’s been a strong year for momentum, seeing representative MTUM outperform the S&P 500 by 5.4% YTD. When MTUM beats the market across a calendar year, it has outpaced the S&P 500 in 68% of following quarters, which bodes well for Q1 2026.
