  • Market were mixed on Monday, with most domestic equity indices ending the day flat. The S&P 500 fell 0.06% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.11%.
  • Weakness within the market was driven partially by the uptick in crude oil prices, with futures for the commodity rising around 5% on the day. However, the two-point trend chart for Cl/ still shows it in a negative trend on five consecutive sell signals.
  • The uptick in energy commodity prices was also a tailwind for the energy sector, as the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) gained 4.66% on the day. The fund regained near-term market RS last month, bringing it up to a 4.07 fund score, but energy still remains in the bottom half of DALI for now.
  • Healthcare stocks also had a solid day, with the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) rising 1.67%, reversing back into a column of Xs. While XLV holds a mediocre fund score of 3.68, the broader group holds the second place in DALI’s sector rankings given the strength of several of its subsectors.
  • iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 1.2% on Monday, moving to its second consecutive buy signal, lifting its fund score to a near-perfect 5.70. Meanwhile, the iShares U.S. Pharmaceuticals ETF (IHE) gained 1.36%. The fund holds an even stronger fund score of 5.85 after completing nine consecutive buy signals.
