Mega Cap Earnings Preview
We highlight the current technical pictures for META, MSFT, AMZN, and AAPL, while also highlighting a screener idea for earnings season.
Morning Pulse
NDW Morning Pulse - July 28, 2026
- Major names we typically look at were positive over yesterday’s roll. SPXEWI gained roughly .75% for the day, outperforming the cap weighted S&P 500 handedly as it was roughly flat for the day.
- Crude declined 7.5%. The Nasdaq 100 ([NDX]) fought back to nearly flat for the day after a somewhat wild trading session that saw it open positive, swinging sharply lower before drifting back towards even for the day. NDX trades on a string of three consecutive sell signals and its series of lower highs should be monitored very closely.
- Crude continues to flirt with an apparently important level in the low $80’s. It trades well off 2026 highs around $120…. But remains volatile and largely dependant on headline developments around the Middle East.
- Gold ([GC/]) and long-duration fixed income ([TLT]) moved higher yesterday, although both spaces remain points of relative weakness within their respective asset class.
- Many names have shown some interesting technical developments around earnings. [WYNN] returned to a buy signal but shows all the signs of a “failed breakout”- don’t be fooled by this low attribute name. [GLW] slumped nearly 20% in pre-market trading on 7/28 on weak guidance. [KO] picked up ~4% on strong guidance, it remains a technically appealing as it trades on a series of buy signals.
- Lots of names are reporting over the next few days. The likes of [AMZN], [META], [AAPL], [MSFT], [LRCX], [MA], etc. are all reporting on either 7/29 or 7/30. Watch the charts for further developments.

This week is one of the busiest weeks of the new quarter. We have a Fed meeting coming up Wednesday with heightened uncertainty around rate expectations. We have more companies in the S&P 500 reporting earnings this week than any other week at 183 stocks over the next six trading days starting Wednesday (7/29 - 8/4). That includes some of the largest stocks in the market with Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple. Today, we will review the current technical pictures of those names heading into their earnings announcements and highlight how to use the screener to find high technical attribute stocks reporting soon.
Meta Platform Inc. (META) and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)
Both META and MSFT are expected to report earnings after the market close on Wednesday, July 29. These stocks show similar technical pictures. Both have experienced weakness throughout 2026, showing double-digit losses through Monday’s action. They both moved to a weak technical attribute rating at the end of March with bleak relative strength pictures. The two stocks sit on RS sell signals against the market and sit in the bottom quartile of the Top 500 Large Cap matrix. The default point & figure charts have been inconsistent, but the absolute strength has seen some signs of improvement. The two stocks both sit on consecutive buy signals and in positive trends. A lot seems to be riding on the stock’s earnings announcements. Positive price action could show confirmation of near-term improvement that translates into better relative strength. Alternatively, negative reactions could lead the stocks to revert back into negative trends. Keep a close eye on the support and resistance levels depicted below for confirmation one way or the other.

Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Apple Inc. (AAPL)
Amazon is expected to report after the market closes on Thursday, July 30. This stock has a 1 for 5 technical attribute rating but has not shown the same magnitude of technical weakness as some of the other mega-cap names. AMZN sits in the top half of the retailing sector and Top 500 Large Cap sector matrices. The stock is also barely in the black year-to-date through Monday (7/27). The absolute technical picture is not favorable, as the stock moved to a negative trend last week at the current level of $232. However, we do see some consolidation as near-term support is offered close by at $228 with overhead resistance up at $256. The technical picture is weak but could see quick improvement with a positive earnings reaction causing shares to move north outside of the consolidation range. Further support is not seen until $200 if we see continued downside action.
Apple is also expected to report after the market closes on Thursday, July 30. This time last year, most of the conversation around Apple centered around disappointment and uncertainty. News reports highlighted the underwhelming AI announcements from the company. The stock had just moved back to a positive trend at the beginning of July after a string of four consecutive sell signals, leaving an uncertain but improving technical picture. The stock has barely looked back since that trend change, showing seven buy signals and just two sell signals. AAPL moved to a 5 for 5 TA rating earlier this month, has maintained positive relative strength against the market for over 20 years, and sits in the top quartile of the Top 500 Large Cap matrix. The stock currently sits on two consecutive buy signals and in a column of Xs at fresh all-time highs reached on Tuesday. The technical picture remains strong across the board. With that said, AAPL is nearing overbought territory heading into the company’s earnings announcement. Initial support is seen at $320 with further support seen at $276.

Screening for Earnings Season
There are many more names than just these four stocks that are expected to report earnings over the next week. As we hit on previously, there are 183 stocks from the S&P 500 Index reporting from Wednesday (7/29) through the following Wednesday (8/4). We have seen from our quarterly report on technical updates following earnings announcements that stocks with higher technical attributes usually show a higher beat rate for EPS and revenue. These averages include outliers, but the general theme should make sense conceptually. Stocks with high technical attributes are high momentum stocks that have generally performed well. Stocks that perform well can be expected to continue performing well until proven otherwise (which would be seen by declining technical attributes).
We can use our screener tool to find high technical attribute stocks reporting earnings soon. The new AI screener functionality should make this easier than ever, as we just need to type in what we are looking for to get the recommended filter. For example, I typed in the below prompt that yielded 40 results:
“Give me stocks in the S&P 500 index with strong technical attribute ratings that have earnings coming up over the next five days”
The next page brings you to a preview of your filters chosen by the AI with the total number of results at the bottom. You can adjust any of the parameters or retype anything in your prompt from that page. To view the results, simply click on the “Run Screen” button at the bottom of the page, which brings you to the table view. I have included the 40 stocks with their technical attributes and expected earnings announcement dates in the table below. Anyone with questions on the AI screener can reach out to us on the analyst phone line or at NDWsupport@nasdaq.com.

NDW Spotlight Stock
CB Chubb Ltd ($362.59) - Insurance - Chubb has been a 4 for 5’er in technical attribute rating since March of this year. Along with near-term market and peer relative strength, CB has maintained a long-term RS buy signal against the market since May 2024. CB has maintained a positive trend for more than three years and a buy signal since the latter part of June this year. Last week’s trading capped off with a second buy signal by completing a bullish triangle at $356, while this week’s trading has brought the chart up to match the all-time chart high at $364 from earlier this month. Okay to consider CB here on the breakout or on a pullback to the mid $340 range. The bullish price objective of $456 will serve as the price target, giving the stock a current reward to risk ratio of greater than 4. The stop loss point will be set for $308, which would shift the trend to negative and bring shares down to levels not seen since February 2026.
