There is a change to the iShares Sector Rotation Model (ISHRSECT) this week.

There is a change to the iShares Sector Rotation Model (ISHRSECT) this week: buy the US Basic Materials ETF (IYM). ISHRSECT utilizes a relative strength versus benchmark methodology which compares each fund in the model universe against the iShares Dow Jones US ETF (IYY). Those funds showing near-term relative strength against the benchmark (i.e., are in a column of Xs) are included in the portfolio and are removed only when they show weakness relative to the benchmark. When an addition or deletion is made, the portfolio is rebalanced so each position is equally weighted. IYM was added because it reversed up into a column Xs on its relative strength chart vs IYY, demonstrating short-term relative strength versus the benchmark.

IYM currently has a favorable 4.66 fund score, which is on par with the average for all materials funds, and a positive 2.63 score direction. On its default chart, IYM has completed four consecutive buy signals and reached a new all-time high in this week’s trading. Year-to-date (through 2/11), IYM has gained 20.18% on a price return basis. The fund also carries a 1.37% yield. In addition to IYM, ISHRSECT has exposure to biotech, technology, semiconductors, financials, and telecom. Year-to-date, the model has gained 3.14%.
